installation for work-in-progress game and film

materials: suspended office ceiling, brown office carpet, flickering lights that disclose messages in morse code, stools made from an elm tree cut down by the local council, mollusc shells filled with glass that has a platinum lustre, office mugs, wall print collage of ambiguous cybernetics management diagrams, rubber windows, CRT monitor.

This room was a scenario for a collective experience; a work-in-progress card game called 'Dissenting Decisions', in which we share the pain and pleasures of working with others. While the game is infatuated with self- organisation, the scenography it rests inside is concerned with other social tactics in our so called democracies. The office, the family, the nation state and the internet all make appearances in literal and cryptic ways. The room is paranoid, it seeks out forms of control that are often behind the scenes.

In the film we see concrete acoustic mirrors built by the british military to overhear incoming enemy planes and the artist's family discuss something unheard and unseen. Our phones become a mirrored mollusc, a voting entity, the names of covert operations are shared via morse code, an ambiguous management system is drawn on the wall.
